Dog-friendly is a claim. This is the standard.

GEOVO-DF/1 is the framework every Geovo review runs against. Five dimensions, criteria scoped to the kind of place being assessed, and a decision made on documented evidence rather than on the operator's own description of itself.

    Published in full
Every dimension and criterion is on this page. Nothing is assessed against a rule an operator could not read first.
    Independent of the outcome
Geovo maintains the Standard and is paid for the review, never for the result it reaches.
    Scoped to the place
The five dimensions never change. What each one examines depends on whether it is a lobby, a dog run or a dining room.
    Versioned, not silent
Criteria change as the category matures. Changes apply at review or renewal, and never retroactively without notice.

A claim is written. A standard is checked.

Two words on a door cost nothing to print and commit a place to nothing. They do not say what a dog costs, where it may actually go, or whether the answer holds on a Tuesday afternoon. The Standard exists to turn that sentence into something that can be examined.

Every other category that mattered solved this decades ago. The places we live with our dogs never did.

Deposits, pet rent and one-time fees surface at the lease or the check-in desk — after the decision has been made.
    It is inconsistent
The website, the booking flow and the person on shift answer the same question three different ways.
    It is unchecked
Nobody asks the place to show its work. The claim and the conditions behind it are never put side by side.

Every one of those is answerable in an afternoon. None of them is answerable from the listing.

Five dimensions. Every place, every review.

Each dimension asks one direct question. A hotel and an apartment community are examined through the same five. What changes is what each one looks at inside that kind of place.

    1. A resident with a golden retriever at a leasing desk, a pet policy sign on the counter

      Policies & Transparency

Is the dog-friendly experience clear before someone moves in?

Geovo looks at how clearly a property communicates its pet policies, restrictions, costs, and expectations so residents can understand what living there with a dog actually involves.

    2. A golden retriever sitting on artificial turf outside a covered walkway, looking up and off to the side

      Access & Everyday Use

Does the property actually work well for people living with dogs?

We look at how residents and their dogs move through and use the property day to day, including access, outdoor relief, common areas, and the practical usability of the spaces provided.

    3. A border collie running toward the camera across a grass field at golden hour, another dog playing behind it

      Amenities & Upkeep

Are dog-friendly features useful, accessible, and properly maintained?

Having a dog run or pet wash is one thing. Geovo looks at whether the amenities provided are genuinely useful to residents, kept in good condition, and supported as part of the overall living experience.

    4. A resident walking a dog on a leash through a shared lobby past the front desk

      Shared Spaces & Safety

Does the property balance the needs of dog owners and the wider community?

We assess how shared spaces are managed around cleanliness, responsible dog ownership, circulation, safety, and consideration for residents, staff, visitors, and other dogs.

    5. A husky puppy resting its chin on its owner's shoulder while being held outdoors

      Management & Accountability

Does the dog-friendly promise hold up after move-in?

Geovo looks beyond what appears on an amenities page. We evaluate how policies are communicated and maintained, how issues are handled, and whether the experience residents receive is consistent with what the property promotes.

Together they cover the whole dog‑friendly experience, from what a property promises before move‑in to how it works day to day.

Properties that meet the Standard across all five can earn Geovo Verified status. The full Residential Standard sets out the assessment criteria, evidence requirements and verification procedures behind each review.

    Maintained, versioned, and public.

Geovo writes and maintains GEOVO-DF/1, and publishes it in full. It is revised as the category matures and as reviews surface conditions the current criteria handle badly. That is the normal life of a standard, not an admission that the last edition was wrong.

Five dimensions resolve into one mark.

A place that meets the Standard may display the Geovo Verified mark — and only while its status is current. Every placement points back to the same dated record, which is what separates the mark from the claim it replaces.

Read the Standard, then find out how your place measures against it.
